Ahmed Al-Khatib: Saudi Arabia is a global tourism powerhouse at Davos 2026

Saudi Tourism Minister Ahmed Al-Khatib affirmed that the participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s delegation in the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos is in line with the Kingdom’s strategic priorities and its growing leading role in promoting international cooperation and building effective partnerships aimed at transforming discussions into tangible results on the ground.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Al-Khatib explained that Saudi Arabia's presence at this global event reflects the Kingdom's consistent approach of opening up joint investment opportunities to develop vital sectors, most notably tourism. He pointed out that the Kingdom has become a new global tourism powerhouse and a rapidly developing model for creating competitive destinations and experiences, reflecting its growing stature and direct influence on the international tourism map.

Tourism is at the heart of Vision 2030

These statements come amidst the radical transformations taking place in the Saudi economy under the umbrella of "Vision 2030," launched by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The tourism sector is no longer merely a source of entertainment, but has become a fundamental pillar in the economic diversification plan aimed at reducing dependence on oil. In recent years, the Kingdom has successfully climbed to advanced positions in global tourism rankings, bolstered by mega-projects such as NEOM, the Red Sea Project, Qiddiya, and Diriyah Gate, which offer the world a unique tourism experience blending tradition and modernity.

Integrated economic system

The Minister explained that the tourism sector has become an integrated system closely linked to advanced infrastructure, job creation for youth, fostering innovation, empowering local communities, and enhancing the competitiveness of Saudi cities and destinations. He stated that participation in the Davos Forum will highlight the importance of developing the tourism experience and improving the quality of services, ensuring sustainable growth that balances increasing global demand with maximizing added value to the national economy, while strictly adhering to preserving cultural identity and rich heritage and protecting natural and environmental resources.

The importance of being present in Davos

The Minister of Tourism considered the Davos Forum a strategic opportunity to activate joint international efforts aimed at improving the quality of life for people, preserving natural and cultural resources, and supporting responsible innovation that places people at the heart of policies and solutions. He emphasized that measuring results, enhancing transparency, and exchanging experiences among countries, cities, and international organizations is the fastest way to improve the quality of life and the tourism experience, and to achieve balanced development that translates into real opportunities for communities, especially in light of current global economic challenges.

Al-Khatib concluded his statement by saying: “At the Davos Forum, we will continue to work with our international partners from governments, multilateral institutions, and the private sector to build practical cooperation that contributes to expanding success, developing models applicable in various contexts, and promoting quality investments that support sustainability, provide jobs, and accelerate growth,” thus confirming the Kingdom’s determination to lead the global tourism scene towards a more sustainable and prosperous future.
