Jeddah Municipality seizes 3 sites for storing damaged tires south of the governorate

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the urban landscape and enhance compliance with municipal regulations, the Jeddah Municipality that its inspection teams successfully identified three illegal sites in the southern part of the city that had been converted into warehouses for collecting and storing used and damaged tires. This operation is part of the municipality's comprehensive strategy to monitor and address negative phenomena that affect the environment and public safety.

Details of the seizure and the risks identified

The Director General of Monitoring and Addressing Negative Phenomena at the Jeddah Municipality, Yasser bin Siraj Bakhsh , explained that field teams were able to identify these sites, which were being used by illegal workers to store huge quantities of unusable tires. He pointed out that these workers were recycling the tires using primitive and unregulated methods, posing a direct threat to public safety.

The danger of these practices lies in the serious environmental damage that may result from them, as the random storage of tires is a ticking time bomb that threatens to cause fires that are difficult to control, given the nature of the materials that make up the tires and their rapid ignition, which calls for a firm intervention by the Civil Defense and the competent authorities to prevent disasters.

Integration of government efforts

This operation was not a solitary effort, but rather the result of high-level cooperation and coordination between several government agencies. The following participated in the campaign:

  • Southern Sub-Municipality.
  • Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority.
  • Ministry of Commerce.
  • Jeddah Company.
  • Field Control Department.
  • civil defense.

The violating sites were dealt with immediately and all necessary regulatory measures were taken, in addition to confiscating the seized items and handing them over to the competent authorities for destruction in accordance with safe and environmentally approved methods.

Context of the event and its environmental and urban significance

These campaigns are of paramount importance in light of the Kingdom's directives and Vision 2030, which aim to enhance quality of life and protect the environment. The phenomenon of dumping and storing damaged tires not only mars the city's visual landscape but also constitutes a source of environmental pollution and breeding grounds for insects and diseases if water accumulates inside them.

Through these intensive campaigns, the Jeddah Municipality aims to eliminate informal settlements where illegal workers operate and ensure compliance with strict environmental regulations. This decisive action underscores the commitment of the relevant authorities to upholding municipal law and protecting residents from the health and security risks associated with unlicensed commercial activities.

The Secretariat concluded its statement by emphasizing the continuation of its field inspection tours in cooperation with all strategic partners, calling on citizens and residents to cooperate and report any similar violations through official channels, to contribute to maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the city of Jeddah.
