Thunderstorms and winds in Al-Jumum, Makkah... Meteorology warns until evening
The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued a weather alert for the Makkah region, warning of thunderstorms and strong winds in Al-Jumum Governorate and surrounding areas. The center indicated that this weather pattern is expected to continue until 9:00 PM today, urging residents and visitors to take precautions.
The effects of this weather system include light to moderate rainfall, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, as well as surface wind activity that may stir up dust and reduce horizontal visibility. The center urged the public to follow its weather reports for the latest updates.
The climatic context of the Makkah region
These weather fluctuations are part of the climatic pattern characteristic of the western regions of Saudi Arabia. Despite its generally desert nature, the Makkah region, thanks to its mountainous terrain and proximity to the Red Sea, is prone to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, especially during transitional periods such as spring and autumn. These clouds often cause heavy rainfall over a short period, increasing the likelihood of flash floods in valleys and ravines.
The importance of warnings and their expected impact
The warnings issued by the National Center of Meteorology are crucial for preserving lives and property. Locally, these alerts contribute to raising the level of preparedness of relevant authorities such as Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, who in turn deploy their field teams and provide safety guidelines to citizens and residents. Among the most important of these guidelines are staying away from valleys and floodplains, avoiding crossing them, securing loose objects on rooftops, and exercising caution while driving on highways due to reduced visibility and the possibility of vehicles skidding.
Given the sanctity of Mecca and its status as a destination for pilgrims and visitors throughout the year, any weather fluctuations could affect their safety and movement. Therefore, Saudi authorities are proactively working to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and provide a safe environment for everyone, while continuously emphasizing the importance of adhering to official instructions issued through reliable channels to avoid any potential risks arising from these weather conditions.
