Saudi Water Authority's tips for reducing bills and detecting leaks

stressed The Saudi Water Authority the need to adhere to periodic inspection of household tanks and internal connections, emphasizing that this step is the cornerstone for early detection of hidden leaks that lead to the depletion of families’ financial resources through unjustified high bills.

The importance of early leak detection

In line with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts to enhance water security and achieve resource sustainability as part of Vision 2030, the Water Authority is highlighting the issue of water waste resulting from neglect in maintaining home infrastructure. The Authority explained that hidden leaks can cause an unusual increase in water consumption, directly impacting monthly bills, in addition to potentially causing long-term structural damage to buildings due to water saturation of walls and foundations.

The main sources of leakage and how to address them

The authority identified a number of critical points within the home that must be closely monitored, including the most prominent sources of leaks:

  • Bathrooms and kitchens: These are considered among the places most prone to leaks due to frequent use and multiple connections.
  • Overhead and underground tanks: The authority called for checking the safety of the "tank neck", the "float" and the connections associated with them.
  • Home yards and gardens: which may conceal leaks in buried irrigation networks.
  • Water heaters: which may be exposed to corrosion and rust, causing unnoticeable leaks.

The authority also stressed the need to ensure that the walls are free of cracks or signs of dampness that indicate damage to internal plumbing, and the importance of addressing any defect immediately upon discovery to ensure that the problem does not worsen.

The economic and national impact of rationalizing consumption

The importance of these measures extends beyond the individual's financial well-being to encompass national and strategic dimensions. The Kingdom invests billions of riyals in water desalination and transportation, and conserving every drop of water is a shared societal responsibility. The authority indicated that continuous monitoring and the use of water-saving tools effectively contribute to reducing water loss, protecting home infrastructure from corrosion, and lowering water costs for the end consumer.

The authority concluded its directives by emphasizing that early detection is a proactive step that enhances the sustainability of supplies and ensures efficient use, thereby supporting the preservation of national resources and embodying the awareness of citizens and residents in protecting this vital wealth.
