Al-Diriyah Hospital successfully removes a large uterine tumor

The medical team specializing in obstetrics and gynecology at Al-Diriyah Hospital, one of the components of the Third Riyadh Health Cluster, recorded a new medical achievement that adds to the record of successes of the health sector in the Kingdom, after it was able to end the suffering of a resident patient who was complaining of severe and continuous pain, through performing a delicate surgical operation to remove a huge uterine fibroid tumor.
In detailing this medical achievement, the hospital received the patient, who underwent thorough and comprehensive examinations that revealed a large tumor requiring urgent surgical intervention. The medical team for this complex procedure was led by Dr. Haifa Al-Jubair, Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Dr. Sahar Al-Suwailem, Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The decision was made to perform open abdominal surgery due to the size and nature of the tumor.
Details of microsurgery
The surgery took approximately three hours of continuous and meticulous work. The medical team faced the challenge of a tumor weighing about 2.5 kilograms and measuring 25 centimeters in length. These relatively large dimensions required a high level of surgical skill to manage the blood vessels surrounding the uterus and prevent severe bleeding, a task the medical team successfully accomplished, supported by a fully integrated nursing and technical staff working according to the highest international safety and quality standards.
The importance of achievement in the context of health transformation
This success is not merely a routine surgical procedure; it reflects the significant progress being made at Diriyah Hospital and the Third Riyadh Health Cluster in handling complex medical cases. This step aligns with the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program, one of the programs under the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to facilitate access to healthcare services, improve their quality, and enhance operational efficiency in government hospitals to provide care comparable to international standards.
This event also highlights the competence of national and female medical personnel in the Kingdom, as Saudi female doctors have demonstrated a superior ability to lead surgical teams and perform delicate operations, which enhances the status of women in the health sector and supports the pillars of human development in the country.
Stable condition and follow-up
The medical team confirmed that the operation was a complete success, thanks be to God. The tumor was fully removed without any complications, and the patient's vital signs remained stable throughout the surgery. The patient received the necessary post-operative care and was discharged from the hospital in good health. A follow-up plan has been put in place to ensure the sustainability of the treatment results.
This achievement confirms the readiness of Al-Diriyah Hospital to receive specialized cases and provide effective treatment solutions, which contributes to easing the burden on central referral hospitals and enhances the community’s confidence in the health services provided in the various governorates of the Riyadh region.
