The Security Council takes the initiative in determining the existence of a threat to peace or an act of aggression, calls upon parties to a dispute to settle it peacefully, and takes the necessary measures to maintain or restore international peace and security. The President of the Security Council also manages the work of the Council and its subsidiary bodies, striving to build upon the common ground of member states and ensure the continued optimal cooperation of international actors.
