The Crown Prince receives a message from the President of Uzbekistan to strengthen bilateral relations
His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, received a written message from His Excellency President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The message focused on the strong bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to support and enhance them in various areas of common interest.
The message was delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, during a meeting with His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh. During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to strengthen them, in addition to addressing the latest regional and international developments. Also present at the meeting were His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Political Affairs, Dr. Saud Al-Sati.
Historical background and rising momentum
This diplomatic move comes amidst growing momentum in Saudi-Uzbek relations, which trace their roots back to the Kingdom's recognition of Uzbekistan's independence and the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992. These relations are based on deep historical, cultural, and religious bonds, as both countries form an important part of the Islamic world. Recent years have witnessed a qualitative leap in the level of cooperation, culminating in high-level reciprocal visits, most notably the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the Kingdom and the visit of the Crown Prince to Tashkent, which laid the foundation for a promising strategic partnership aimed at achieving integration across various sectors.
Economic importance within the framework of Vision 2030
On the economic front, these relations are of particular importance given the alignment between Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Uzbekistan’s development strategy. Riyadh seeks to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment, while Tashkent is working to modernize its economy and open its doors to international partners. This rapprochement has resulted in significant Saudi investments in Uzbekistan, particularly in the renewable energy sector through leading companies such as ACWA Power, in addition to promising opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, mining, tourism, and digital technology, opening up broad prospects for increasing the volume of trade between the two countries.
Strategic impact and international cooperation
The importance of this rapprochement extends beyond the economic sphere to encompass strategic regional and international dimensions. Strengthening relations with Uzbekistan, a pivotal state in Central Asia, serves Saudi Arabia's foreign policy objectives of building diverse and sustainable partnerships worldwide. For its part, Uzbekistan views Saudi Arabia as an influential strategic partner in the Middle East and the Islamic world, enhancing its international standing and supporting its ambitious development plans. This cooperation also includes coordination in international forums and through organizations such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, serving the interests of the Muslim world and promoting global security and stability.
