
727 million in FIFA prize money... Everyone's a winner at the World Cup
FIFA has allocated $727 million in prize money for the 2026 World Cup, a significant increase compared to previous editions, coinciding with the tournament's expansion to 48 teams for the first time. This increase is part of FIFA's strategy to boost revenue and distribute it more widely among national federations, particularly as the tournament will be held in three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico, from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
According to the announced figures, the world champion will receive a financial prize of $50 million, while the runner-up will receive $33 million, the third-place finisher will receive $29 million, and the fourth-place finisher will receive $27 million.
Teams that reach the quarter-finals (from fifth to eighth place) will receive $19 million each, while teams that are eliminated in the round of 16 (from ninth to sixteenth place) will receive $15 million.
For teams that exit the group stage (ranked 17th to 32nd), a reward of $11 million has been set, while teams that leave the tournament early (ranked 33rd to 48th) will receive $9 million each.
Financial prizes for the national teams:
– First place: $50 million.
– Second place: $33 million.
– Third place: $29 million.
– Fourth place: $27 million.
From fifth to eighth place, $19 million.
From ninth to sixteenth, $15 million.
