Saudi Arabia condemns the terrorist attack in Homs and affirms its support for the stability of Syria

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed the Kingdom’s strong condemnation and deep denunciation of the treacherous terrorist attack that targeted the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in the city of Homs in the Syrian Arab Republic, during the performance of Friday prayers, which resulted in a number of victims and injuries in a flagrant violation of the sanctity of the houses of God and the lives of innocent people.

In its official statement, the Kingdom reiterated its firm and unwavering stance against all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism, regardless of their motives or justifications. It emphasized that targeting places of worship and terrorizing innocent civilians constitutes a crime that contravenes all religious values, humanitarian principles, and international norms. The Ministry affirmed the Kingdom's full solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic and its brotherly people in this profound tragedy, declaring its support for the efforts exerted by the Syrian government and its relevant institutions to establish security and stability and to pursue the terrorist cells attempting to undermine the country's security.

This Saudi stance is a continuation of the growing relationship between Riyadh and Damascus, particularly following the resumption of diplomatic ties and Syria's return to its seat in the Arab League. This solidarity reflects the Kingdom's commitment to regional security and the stability of Syria as an integral part of Arab national security, and its ongoing efforts to support political and security solutions that guarantee the unity of Syrian territory and the safety of its citizens after years of conflict.

Historical and political context indicates that Homs, a city that witnessed violent conflicts over the past decade, is striving to regain its security and social stability. However, such terrorist attacks aim to undermine the relative stability that has recently been achieved. Saudi Arabia, through its leading role in the Islamic world, recognizes the danger of extremist groups exploiting places of worship to incite sectarian strife, and therefore its condemnation is firm, intended to thwart any attempts to drag the region back into cycles of violence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded its statement by offering sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims and to the government and people of brotherly Syria, asking God Almighty to have mercy on the deceased, to grant the injured a speedy recovery, and to perpetuate the blessings of security, safety and stability upon Syria.
