Makkah Route Initiative 1445: Brunei pilgrims arrive in Madinah

Welcoming the first group of pilgrims from Brunei

In an atmosphere of faith and warm welcome, Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah received the first flights of pilgrims arriving from the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam, benefiting from the "Makkah Route Initiative" for this year's Hajj season (1445 AH). This arrival marks the true beginning of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts to facilitate the Hajj journey for the guests of God, transforming it into a complete spiritual experience that begins in the pilgrim's home country and ends with their safe return.

What is the Makkah Route Initiative? Background and Development

The Makkah Route Initiative is one of the Ministry of Interior's flagship initiatives under the Guests of God Service Program, a key component of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. Launched as a pilot program in 2017 (1438 AH), the initiative has since expanded and achieved continuous success, entering its eighth year of implementation this year. The initiative aims to streamline entry procedures for pilgrims arriving in the Kingdom at their home airports, eliminating the need for long waiting times at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah.

The procedures completed in the country of departure include: issuing the electronic Hajj visa, taking biometric data (fingerprints), verifying compliance with health requirements, and tagging and sorting luggage according to transportation and accommodation arrangements in the Kingdom. Upon arrival, pilgrims are transferred directly to designated buses to transport them to their accommodations in Mecca and Medina, while the relevant authorities deliver their luggage to their residences.

Strategic importance and expected impact of the initiative

The Makkah Route Initiative is of paramount importance on multiple levels. Domestically, it reflects the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality services to pilgrims and employing the latest technologies to ensure their comfort and safety, thus reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a leader in the Islamic world. It also contributes to achieving the goals of Vision 2030 by enhancing the efficiency of services provided to Hajj and Umrah pilgrims and increasing capacity.

Internationally, the initiative strengthens bilateral relations between the Kingdom and its beneficiary countries, which this year include, in addition to Brunei, countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Morocco, and Turkey. It also presents an innovative global model for crowd management and streamlined cross-border travel procedures, showcasing the Kingdom's superior organizational and technological capabilities.

The most important impact remains on the pilgrim himself, as the initiative contributes to significantly reducing the waiting time and alleviating the hardship of travel, allowing the pilgrim, especially the elderly and families, to fully focus on the spiritual aspect and worship from the moment he arrives in the Holy Land.

An integrated partnership to serve the guests of God

The success of the initiative is a result of cooperation and integration between several government agencies, as it is implemented by the Ministry of Interior in partnership with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Hajj and Umrah, and Media, in addition to the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), the Guests of God Service Program, and the General Directorate of Passports, which embodies an integrated national work system to serve Hajj and pilgrims.
