Classes in Asir will be suspended on Sunday and transferred to the Madrasati platform
The General Directorate of Education in the Asir region announced the suspension of in-person classes for tomorrow, Sunday, in all schools located within the red alert zone issued by the National Center for Meteorology. The educational process will be conducted remotely via the "My School" platform, in order to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and administrative staff. This exceptional decision includes a wide range of schools in the region's cities and governorates, specifically in: Abha, Khamis Mushait, Ahad Rafidah, Sarat Abidah, Al Namas, Dhahran Al Janoub, Tanomah, Balqarn, Al Harjah, Al Rabwah, and Al Farshah.
General context and background of decisions to suspend studies
This step comes as part of the ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Education and the National Center for Meteorology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The center employs a precise early warning system, with the "red alert" representing the highest level of warning. This alert indicates expected heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, reduced horizontal visibility, and flash floods. The Asir region is characterized by its mountainous terrain and rugged landscape, making a rapid response to weather warnings crucial to avoid any risks that may arise from the sudden climatic changes the region experiences during the rainy season.
“My School” platform: From a temporary solution to a strategic option
The “My School” platform is one of the most prominent technological achievements of the Saudi Ministry of Education. Launched as an emergency response during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the continuity of education, it has now become a fundamental pillar and a robust digital infrastructure used during emergencies and climate crises. This digital transformation reflects the Kingdom’s success in achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 regarding digital transformation in the education sector, as the platform provides integrated virtual classrooms that guarantee students’ continued learning regardless of the circumstances.
The importance of the event and its expected impact
At the local level, the decision to suspend in-person classes contributes to easing traffic congestion and reducing the likelihood of accidents during adverse weather conditions, thus providing a safer environment for families and the community in the Asir region. At the national level, this measure enhances public confidence in state institutions and their ability to manage crises effectively, while prioritizing the safety of citizens and residents.
The Asir Education Department confirmed that classes will continue as normal on Sunday for all staff members of schools and education offices via the “My School” platform, demonstrating the high level of preparedness of educational staff for a smooth transition between in-person and remote learning. This integration of technology and crisis management places the Kingdom among the ranks of advanced nations that utilize technology to serve humanity and ensure the continuation of daily life with minimal disruption.
