Volunteer initiatives to care for mosques in Jazan with the participation of 131 volunteers

As part of its ongoing efforts to serve mosques and promote a culture of charitable work, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, represented by its branch in the Jazan region, implemented a series of volunteer opportunities and initiatives dedicated to the upkeep of mosques, prayer halls, and women's prayer areas. This extensive campaign coincides with International Volunteer Day, observed annually on December 5th, reflecting the Ministry's commitment to utilizing international occasions to serve the local community.
Details of initiatives in the governorates
The region's governorates witnessed a surge in volunteer activity. In Al-Dayer Governorate, the volunteer unit of the Mosques Department implemented a unique volunteer initiative focused primarily on preparing and cleaning women's prayer areas. This included comprehensive tidying, cleaning, and perfuming, and the efforts continued for two days, contributing to a more spiritually enriching environment for the women.
In parallel, Al-Aydabi Governorate witnessed a distinguished initiative entitled "Our Mosques Are Fragrant," implemented by the Volunteer Work Unit of the Mosques Department. This initiative aimed to provide meticulous care for mosques and prayer halls through perfuming and fumigation, in addition to inspecting and organizing copies of the Quran and removing any damaged ones. These efforts continued for five consecutive days, reflecting a commitment to attending to even the smallest details in the houses of God.
Statistics reflect the scale of the achievement
These initiatives achieved results that reflect the spirit of giving among the people of the region, with volunteer opportunities targeting 10 mosques, prayer halls, and women's prayer rooms. A total of 131 volunteers participated, contributing 1,600 volunteer hours. This significant number of volunteer hours underscores the community's genuine desire to contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of mosques.
The context of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and volunteer work
These initiatives are not isolated from the Kingdom's overall direction; rather, they are a practical implementation of the goals of Vision 2030, which aspires to reach one million volunteers. The mosque sector is among the most important sectors attracting volunteers, given the religious and social significance of mosques in Saudi society. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs is working to institutionalize this volunteer work, transforming it from individual efforts into a structured, institutionalized approach that ensures sustainability and quality.
Religious and social significance
These acts derive their importance from the great reward for caring for mosques in Islam, as cleaning and perfuming them are considered virtuous deeds encouraged by Islamic law. Beyond the religious dimension, these initiatives contribute to strengthening social cohesion, reinforcing a sense of belonging, and directing the energies of young men and women towards activities that directly benefit their community.
These ongoing efforts come in implementation of the directives and follow-up of His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al Sheikh, who always emphasizes the need to open the field for volunteers and enable them to serve the houses of God, in order to consolidate the values of solidarity and giving in Saudi society.
