Details of the arrest of violators of the safety and security regulations for maritime activities in Tabuk
As part of ongoing efforts to protect the marine environment and ensure compliance with regulations, coastal patrols of the Border Guard in Al-Bida'a Governorate, Tabuk Region, apprehended three citizens for violating the safety and security regulations for those engaged in maritime activities within the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The apprehension followed the observation of the individuals fishing without the required official permits, and quantities of fish caught using illegal methods were found in their possession. All necessary legal and regulatory measures have been taken against them in coordination with the relevant authorities.
General context: The Kingdom's efforts to protect the marine environment
This incident comes within a broader context reflecting Saudi Arabia's firm commitment to protecting its marine environment and aquatic resources. Historically, coastal communities have relied on fishing for their livelihoods, but with development and population growth, regulating this profession has become essential to prevent overfishing. In line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, the government has enacted strict laws and regulations aimed at achieving environmental sustainability and preserving the unique biodiversity of the Red Sea, which includes rare coral reefs and endangered marine life.
The importance of implementing regulations and their local and international impact
The implementation of the maritime safety and security regulations is of paramount importance on several levels. Locally, preventing unauthorized fishing contributes to protecting the Kingdom's strategic fish stocks, ensuring the sustainability of these resources for future generations and safeguarding the rights of licensed fishermen who abide by the laws. These measures also ensure the safety of lives and property by verifying the readiness of boats and maritime safety equipment before voyage.
At both the regional and international levels, the Red Sea is considered one of the world's most important bodies of water in terms of biodiversity. The decisive measures taken by the Saudi authorities reinforce the Kingdom's position as a leading nation in marine conservation and support international efforts to combat environmental degradation and climate change, making these measures part of a global system for protecting the planet and ensuring the sustainability of its resources.
A call for cooperation and reporting of environmental violations
In this regard, the General Directorate of Border Guards urged all citizens and residents to fully comply with the regulations and instructions related to protecting living aquatic resources. It emphasized the importance of the community's role as a key partner in preserving the environment, calling on everyone to report any instances of environmental or wildlife violations.
