The Meteorology Department warns of rain and flash floods in Hail, the Eastern Province, and Mecca

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued a detailed weather report, warning of unstable weather conditions including varying intensities of rainfall across different regions of the Kingdom. The warnings included the Eastern Province and the Hail region, in addition to forecasts of thunderstorms and rain over Mecca, urging residents to take precautions.

Light to moderate rain in the eastern region

The Eastern Province experienced light rain this morning, covering major cities and governorates such as Dammam, Dhahran, Khobar, Qatif, Jubail, and Ras Tanura. The report indicated that conditions remain favorable for further rainfall, as the sky remains overcast. This rain, though light, is contributing to improved air quality and a more pleasant atmosphere, and is considered good news for farmers and residents of the region.

Advanced warning for the Hail region: Heavy rains and flash floods

In contrast, the center issued an advanced warning for the Hail region, cautioning against heavy rainfall that could lead to flash floods. The report stated that this weather system would be accompanied by high-speed winds and thunderstorms, which could cause a sharp decrease in horizontal visibility, especially on highways and in open areas. The relevant authorities, primarily the Civil Defense, urged citizens and residents to stay away from valleys and floodplains and to exercise extreme caution while driving.

Mecca: Thunderstorms and active winds

In Mecca, the center predicted the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds in the eastern part of the city, accompanied by active winds that could stir up dust and sand. The report indicated that temperatures would range between a high of 37 degrees Celsius and a low of 26 degrees Celsius, with humidity reaching 65%, which would increase the perceived temperature. These warnings are particularly important in Mecca due to the presence of pilgrims and visitors in the Grand Mosque and surrounding areas.

The climatic context of these weather fluctuations

These weather fluctuations occur during a transitional period between seasons, a time when the Kingdom typically experiences atmospheric instability. At this time of year, the Arabian Peninsula is affected by the passage of low-pressure systems from the north or the interaction of different air masses, creating favorable conditions for cloud formation and rainfall. This period is known locally as being close to the "Wasam" season, a rainy season eagerly awaited by many for its positive impact on vegetation and groundwater reserves.

Expected effects and the importance of adhering to instructions

The effects of this weather system extend beyond mere rainfall, directly impacting public safety and transportation. In areas experiencing heavy rain, such as Hail, the risk of road accidents increases due to vehicles skidding and reduced visibility, while flash floods pose a direct threat to lives and property. Based on these forecasts, relevant government agencies, such as Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, are raising their level of preparedness and activating emergency plans. The National Center for Meteorology emphasized the importance of following its updates and periodic reports issued through its official channels, avoiding rumors, and adhering to safety instructions issued by the competent authorities to ensure everyone's safety.
