The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Jordan discuss regional developments by phone

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a telephone conversation with His Excellency Mr. Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The call provided an opportunity to discuss the latest developments in the region and to emphasize the importance of continued and intensive bilateral consultation and coordination between the two brotherly countries.

Deep-rooted historical ties

This communication comes within the context of the fraternal and historical relations that bind the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. These relations serve as a model for joint Arab cooperation, based on deep geographical, cultural, and social ties, in addition to a convergence of views on many regional and international issues. The two countries work closely through institutional mechanisms such as the Saudi-Jordanian Coordination Council, which aims to strengthen the strategic partnership in various political, economic, and security fields, serving their common interests and supporting stability in the region.

Key issues on the research table

Although the official statement did not specify the details of the “regional developments,” the situation in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories is at the forefront of their shared concerns. Both countries demonstrated a unified stance in condemning the Israeli attacks, demanding an immediate ceasefire, and calling for the facilitation of urgent humanitarian aid access to the Strip. Riyadh and Amman also share the vision of finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. In addition to the Palestinian issue, the coordination likely encompassed other matters such as the Syrian crisis, Red Sea security, and combating terrorism and extremism.

The importance and impact of Saudi-Jordanian coordination

Ongoing coordination between Saudi Arabia and Jordan is of paramount strategic importance on several levels. Bilaterally, this consultation strengthens the two countries' ability to confront shared security challenges and secure their borders. Regionally, the unified stance of Riyadh and Amman, two pivotal states in the Arab world, contributes to forging a more cohesive and robust Arab position in international forums. This coordination also sends a clear message to the international community about the necessity of seriously addressing regional issues and striving for peace and stability, thereby bolstering de-escalation efforts and preventing the expansion of conflicts.
