World Gymnastics Championships in Qatar cancelled

The International Gymnastics Federation announced the cancellation of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, which were scheduled to be held in Qatar from April 15 to 18, due to logistical challenges related to the delayed arrival of equipment for the championship.

The President of the Qatar Gymnastics Federation and First Vice President of the International Federation, Ali Al-Hitmi, confirmed in a special statement to the Qatar News Agency that the Qatari Federation had submitted an official request to postpone the championship, in order to ensure that it is held in the best possible organizational manner, and in line with the approved international standards.

He explained that the relevant committees within the International Federation, headed by the Competitions Committee and the Technical Committees, held intensive meetings to study the situation, as it became clear that postponing the championship could have negative effects on the approved international championship calendar, including continental championships in Africa, Europe and Asia, in addition to its impact on the Artistic Gymnastics World Championship scheduled to be held in the Netherlands this year.

He added that the cancellation decision came within the framework of ensuring the regularity of the International Federation’s calendar and guaranteeing equal opportunities for all participating national federations, expressing his appreciation for the understanding of all parties regarding the current circumstances.

Al-Hitmi concluded his statement by emphasizing the Qatar Gymnastics Federation’s commitment to continuing to host and organize major international championships according to the highest organizational standards, reflecting the distinguished sporting status of the State of Qatar on the global stage.
