Three citizens were transported by medical evacuation plane from Egypt to the Kingdom
As part of ongoing efforts to care for Saudi citizens abroad, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Arab Republic of Egypt announced on Saturday the successful transfer of three Saudi citizens suffering from critical medical conditions via air medical evacuation plane from Cairo International Airport to complete their treatment in the homeland.
Details of the medical evacuation process
In an official statement published on its X platform, the embassy explained that it closely and directly monitored, in full coordination with the relevant Egyptian authorities, the procedures for transferring the three citizens. The operation was carried out by an aircraft belonging to the Air Medical Evacuation Department of the Ministry of Defense Health Services, reflecting the high level of preparedness and speed in responding to emergency medical cases requiring urgent intervention.
Capabilities of the Saudi medical evacuation fleet
The Saudi Ministry of Defense's medical evacuation fleet is one of the largest and most modern in the Middle East. These aircraft are equipped as "flying hospitals," featuring state-of-the-art medical technology, mobile intensive care units, and highly qualified medical and nursing staff capable of handling even the most complex cases during flights. The fleet's role extends beyond transporting Ministry personnel; it also serves citizens, as per royal directives, highlighting the significant humanitarian role the military plays in serving the community.
Government care for citizens abroad
This step embodies the concern of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect them – for the health and safety of Saudi citizens wherever they may be. Medical evacuation from abroad is a cornerstone of the healthcare system provided by the state to its citizens who experience critical medical emergencies outside the Kingdom. The state covers the costs of their transfer to ensure they receive the necessary medical care among their families and in advanced Saudi hospitals.
Diplomatic coordination and the role of embassies
This event also highlights the vital role played by Saudi diplomatic missions abroad. Embassies act as the first line of defense for citizens abroad, undertaking extensive coordination efforts with local authorities in host countries to facilitate transfer procedures and overcome any logistical obstacles that may hinder medical evacuations. This was clearly demonstrated in the fruitful cooperation with Egyptian authorities at Cairo International Airport to successfully complete this humanitarian mission.
