With the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, a strategic objective emerged: to transform the Kingdom into a global logistics hub connecting the three continents of Asia, Europe, and Africa. In this context, the General Authority for Roads was established to regulate and develop this vital sector, ensuring the integration of Saudi infrastructure with its Gulf neighbors, thus strengthening the region's position as a global economic and commercial center.
Vital arteries linking the Kingdom to the Gulf states
The authority outlined a number of key projects and roads that represent vital arteries for regional connectivity, most notably:
- The Dhahran-Uqair-Salwa road, stretching 66 kilometers, is a vital route that enhances land connectivity with both Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. This road facilitates transportation between industrial cities and border crossings, reducing travel time by approximately one hour. It also plays a crucial role in separating heavy truck traffic from urban areas, ensuring smoother traffic flow and passenger safety.
- King Fahd Causeway: A strategic and historic crossing linking the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Bahrain, spanning a total length of 25 kilometers. The bridge contributes daily to expediting traffic flow and reducing waiting times for trucks and other vehicles, thus supporting trade and tourism.
- (Saudi Arabia - Sultanate of Oman) Road: This strategic road extends for 564 kilometers across the Empty Quarter desert and is a huge engineering achievement that shortens distances, supports transportation, and facilitates the movement of trucks between the two countries.
- The roads linking with the State of Kuwait: These include vital roads such as the (Khafji - Nairyah - Riyadh) road and the (Ruqai - Hafr Al-Batin - Majmaah) road, which play a fundamental role in sustaining the flow of goods and vehicles between the two brotherly countries.
