Jazan weather today: Rain and thunderstorms until 7 PM

The National Center for Meteorology issued an important alert today, Sunday, for residents and visitors of the Jazan region, indicating expectations of light rain accompanied by other weather phenomena that may affect daily life and traffic. The center explained in its report that the weather conditions include active surface winds, leading to a noticeable decrease in horizontal visibility, in addition to the possibility of thunderstorms in several governorates.

Affected areas and timing of the event

According to the meteorological statement, the active weather conditions will continue until 7:00 PM today. The center identified the regions and governorates covered by this alert as: Al-Harth, Al-Dayer Bani Malik, Al-Raith, Al-Ardah, Al-Aydabi, Fifa, and Haroub. The center also warned that the effects of this weather system will extend to open areas and highways, urging caution among those using these roads.

The geographical and climatic context of the Jazan region

The Jazan region boasts a unique geographical and climatic landscape that distinguishes it from the rest of Saudi Arabia. While a dry desert climate prevails across most of the country, the mountainous highlands of Jazan, such as the Fayfa and Reeth mountains, enjoy a subtropical climate that contributes to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and frequent rainfall, particularly during periods of seasonal weather fluctuations. This rugged terrain makes the region more susceptible to flash floods and overflowing wadis when it receives even light rain, due to the steepness of the mountains.

Safety guidelines and the importance of warnings

In these conditions, adhering to public safety instructions issued by relevant authorities such as the Civil Defense is crucial. It is always advisable to stay away from floodplains and valleys during rainfall and to avoid open areas during thunderstorms. Drivers must also exercise extreme caution due to reduced visibility caused by dust storms or rain, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles to prevent traffic accidents.

Weather conditions in the rest of the Kingdom

In a related development, the National Center for Meteorology's report was not limited to the Jazan region alone, but also included forecasts for several other regions in the Kingdom. The report indicated active winds stirring up dust and sand, which could lead to near-zero horizontal visibility in parts of the Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and Northern Borders regions. The center did not rule out the possibility of light rain in parts of these northern regions, reflecting a state of atmospheric instability affecting large parts of the Kingdom today.
