Jeddah Municipality to remove 11.4 million tons of waste in 2025 to improve the urban landscape

The Jeddah Municipality achieved a remarkable environmental milestone in 2025, with its intensive operational plans in the sanitation sector resulting in the removal of over 11.4 million tons of solid waste and construction debris. This significant effort is part of the municipality's comprehensive strategy to improve the urban landscape and enhance municipal services, aligning with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program.

Detailed figures and operational statistics

The report issued by the General Directorate of Cleaning Projects at the Municipality revealed detailed information on the scale of the completed operations, with a total of 11,422,802 tons of waste removed. These quantities were distributed among multiple sources, reflecting the comprehensiveness of the environmental remediation plan

  • Household and commercial waste: The Environmental Treatment Center recorded receiving 1,114,125 tons of household waste, in addition to 608,521 tons of commercial waste, reflecting the size of the population and economic activity in the governorate.
  • Construction and demolition waste: This constituted the largest proportion of the waste collected, with the landfill receiving 9,413,522 tons, which is an indicator of the urban activity and development projects that Jeddah is witnessing.

Quality efforts to address visual distortion

The municipality's efforts were not limited to traditional waste; they also included addressing specific types of waste that negatively impact the environment and the city's overall appearance. These operations involved the removal of 233,424 tons of large-sized plant waste and 50,502 tons of slaughterhouse waste requiring careful sanitary handling. Additionally, 2,765 tons of various types of waste were disposed of, along with 302 tons of used tires, newspapers, and paper, demonstrating the meticulous approach taken in waste sorting and processing.
