
Pilgrims flocked to Arafat to perform the greatest pillar of Hajj
As the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah dawns, the eyes of millions around the world turn towards the Holy Land, where pilgrims to converge on plains of Arafat to perform the most important rite of Hajj. The hearts of the pilgrims are filled with reverence and tranquility, enveloped in divine care as they humbly supplicate and recite the Talbiyah, asking God Almighty to grant them forgiveness, mercy, and deliverance from Hellfire on this blessed day.
The religious and historical significance of standing at Arafat
Standing on the plains of Arafat is the essential pillar of Hajj, without which the pilgrimage is invalid, based on the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “Hajj is Arafat.” This day embodies the true meaning of equality and Islamic unity, as Muslims from all corners of the earth, regardless of their languages, colors, and cultures, gather in the same ihram garments, stripped of worldly adornments. Historically, this plain witnessed the Farewell Sermon delivered by the Prophet, which established the principles of human rights, equality, and justice in Islam, thus bestowing upon this place and time a sanctity and profound significance that transcends geographical boundaries and reaches a universal level.
Organizational and security efforts to ensure the safety of pilgrims
Domestically, the smooth movement of pilgrims from Mina to Arafat meticulous and comprehensive security monitoring from various government sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Security and traffic personnel were deployed in large numbers along vehicle routes and pedestrian paths to manage the crowds according to pre-approved movement and transportation plans. These stringent measures were implemented to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, while also prioritizing the guidance and safety of pilgrims at every step.
Medical readiness and integrated services in the holy sites
With the full readiness of all relevant government sectors serving the pilgrims, a comprehensive system of medical, ambulance, and logistical services was provided throughout the holy sites. These preparations included equipping field hospitals and heat stress centers, and distributing chilled water and meals to meet the needs of the pilgrims who flocked to perform the fifth pillar of Islam. These tremendous efforts reflect the Kingdom's regional and international influence and its exceptional ability to manage the world's largest annual human gathering with efficiency and competence.
Performing prayers and departing for Muzdalifah
In accordance with the pure Sunnah of the Prophet, pilgrims will, God willing, perform the Dhuhr and Asr prayers combined and shortened, with one Adhan and two Iqamas, at the Namirah Mosque, following the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: “Learn your rituals from me.” The pilgrims will also listen to the Arafat sermon, which is broadcast and translated into multiple international languages, conveying a message of peace and moderation to millions of Muslims worldwide.
As the sun sets on this great day, millions of pilgrims begin their journey to Muzdalifah in a truly awe-inspiring and spiritually uplifting scene. There, they perform the Maghrib and Isha prayers combined and shortened, and spend the night until dawn of the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah (the Day of Sacrifice), following the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who stayed there and prayed Fajr, thus completing their Hajj rituals in peace and tranquility.
