Kuwait affirms its support for Yemeni legitimacy and calls for a comprehensive political solution

The State of Kuwait reaffirmed its firm and principled support for the legitimate government of Yemen, represented by the Presidential Leadership Council, stressing the need for concerted international and regional efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution that ends the years-long crisis. This reaffirmation comes at a time when the region is witnessing intensive diplomatic activity aimed at reviving the peace process and bridging the gaps between the various Yemeni parties.

Historical context and Kuwait's role in the Yemeni crisis

Kuwait's stance is not new to the Yemeni political scene. Since the outbreak of the conflict, Kuwait has adopted a policy of "quiet diplomacy" and impartial mediation. Perhaps the most prominent example of this role was Kuwait's hosting of the Yemeni peace consultations in 2016, which lasted for more than three months, in a serious attempt to bring the Yemeni parties together at one table. Kuwait's vision for a solution in Yemen is always based on the three internationally agreed-upon frameworks: the Gulf Cooperation Council Initiative and its Implementation Mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.

The importance of a political solution and its regional impact

Kuwait, along with the other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, recognizes that the ongoing conflict in Yemen not only threatens Yemen's stability but also casts a dark shadow over regional security as a whole, including maritime security in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Therefore, Kuwait consistently calls for abandoning military solutions, which have proven ineffective, and focusing instead on a diplomatic path that guarantees Yemen's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Human dimension and support for stability

In addition to political support, Kuwait has not neglected the humanitarian aspect, being one of the leading donors of relief aid to the Yemeni people, who are suffering from one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, according to United Nations classifications. Kuwait believes that achieving political stability is the only way to improve the living and economic conditions of Yemenis and to rebuild state institutions damaged by the war.

In conclusion, Kuwait reiterated its call to the international community to exert more effective pressure to push all parties to engage seriously in the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, with the aim of reaching a sustainable truce that paves the way for a permanent political settlement that restores security and stability to Yemen.
