In an innovative move aimed at raising traffic safety standards and improving the experience of pilgrims, the General Authority for Roads in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the launch of the “Your Path is Light” initiative. This initiative is part of a package of projects and services being implemented by the Authority in preparation for the 1447 AH Hajj season, and specifically targets the vital Hijrah Road connecting Makkah and Madinah.

Recognizing its importance, the Kingdom continuously strives to develop the road's infrastructure and equip it with the latest technologies to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for millions of pilgrims, Umrah performers, and visitors. The "Your Path is Light" initiative falls within this context, as part of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 objectives, which aim to provide the best possible service to pilgrims and reach 30 million Umrah performers by 2030.

The initiative relies on a smart and advanced lighting system designed to enhance driver alertness and combat fatigue and drowsiness during long journeys. The system comprises two main components: first, the installation of 16 advanced lasers that emit multi-colored overhead lights, visible from up to 2 kilometers away, breaking the monotony of the desert road at night and continuously engaging the driver's attention. The second component involves the installation of 1,110 illuminated road markings (known as "cat's eyes"), powered by solar energy to clearly delineate road lanes. This technological combination helps reduce visual strain and mental distractions, thereby improving driver focus and decreasing the likelihood of traffic accidents caused by fatigue.
