Launch of the second edition of the Dictionary of Legal Terms with 150 terms

In a move aimed at enriching the legal library and enhancing the precision of legal concepts within the judiciary, His Excellency the Minister of Justice, Dr. Walid bin Mohammed Al-Samaani, directed the launch of the second edition of the "Dictionary of Legal Terms" series. This new edition comes as part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to develop the knowledge base of the judicial system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and includes precise definitions of more than 150 legal terms carefully extracted from applicable laws, regulations, and bylaws.

This dictionary is the product of the research efforts of the Ministry of Justice's Research Center, which serves as a scientific arm supporting judicial decision-making. Those responsible for this edition focused on drawing definitions from approved legislative sources, thus granting it high authority and reliability, making it an essential reference for judges, lawyers, researchers, and law students. Through this work, the Ministry aims to provide a comprehensive reference that gathers scattered terminology from various legal texts into a single, easily accessible resource, directly contributing to improving the quality of legal content and reducing discrepancies in the interpretation of legal texts.

This step is particularly important given the unprecedented legislative activity underway in Saudi Arabia as part of its Vision 2030 objectives. Recent years have witnessed the issuance of a comprehensive set of specialized laws, such as the Civil Transactions Law, the Evidence Law, and the Personal Status Law. This rapid legislative development necessitates the standardization of terminology and concepts to ensure the correct application of these laws, as precise terminology is the cornerstone of stable judicial rulings and clear rights and obligations.

Furthermore, this publication reflects the Ministry of Justice's commitment to enabling specialists and interested parties to easily access reliable legal information. This effort complements the previous publication, "Dictionary of Legal Terms (Arabic-English)," which focused on translating terms to facilitate international communication and introduce the Saudi judicial system in other languages. Thus, the picture is complete, combining the foundational principles of Islamic law and legal systems in Arabic with openness to international legal terminology, thereby enhancing the standing of the Saudi judiciary both domestically and internationally.
