CAF president welcomes corruption investigation, denies favoring Morocco
The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, welcomed a corruption investigation within the organization, following his meeting with Senegalese officials in Dakar yesterday (Wednesday).
The Senegalese government had called for an investigation after the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) appeals committee stripped Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and awarded it to Morocco last month.
No tolerance for corruption
Motsepe said in a press statement: “I will welcome any corruption investigation within CAF, whether conducted by the government or any other institution. In fact, I will encourage it, and we will fully cooperate with them.”.
He added: “I was told that there were problems in the past and we intervened. It is not limited to football, but extends to business and politics as well. We cannot instill in our children the idea that success in life requires corruption. We must never tolerate corruption. This is the best gift we can give to African football. We do not just talk about corruption, but we intervene, put in place the necessary laws and implement them.”.

Denial of Morocco's preference
The CAF president denied any suggestion that Morocco had received preferential treatment in the appeal process, saying: “No country in Africa will, under any circumstances, receive preferential treatment or be treated better than any other country. That will never happen. We are confident that we will emerge from these challenges more united among the countries of the continent.”.
