A citizen in Jazan was arrested for transporting illegal immigrants: 15 years imprisonment and a million-dollar fine

Intensive security efforts to apprehend violators of the border security system

As part of the ongoing efforts by Saudi security authorities to maintain security and combat illegal immigration, security patrols in Al-Aydabi Governorate, Jazan Region, arrested a Saudi citizen involved in transporting a number of individuals violating residency regulations. This operation is part of intensified security campaigns aimed at protecting the nation's security and stability and firmly enforcing regulations against anyone attempting to compromise border security.

Details of the incident and the arrest of the perpetrators

Security authorities explained that the citizen was apprehended while driving his private vehicle, in which he was transporting six individuals. Upon verification of their identities, it was discovered that they were in violation of border security regulations and were of Yemeni nationality. The relevant authorities immediately initiated all necessary legal and regulatory procedures against them. The citizen involved in the transportation was detained and referred directly to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and the application of deterrent penalties. The six violators were referred to the appropriate authorities to initiate the necessary procedures for their deportation.

Strict penalties await violators and those who cover up for them

In a related context, the Ministry of Interior's Agency for Security Forces reiterated its strong warnings to anyone contemplating compromising border security. It emphasized that anyone found to be facilitating the entry of border security violators into the Kingdom, transporting them within its borders, providing them with shelter or accommodation, or offering them any form of assistance or service, will be subject to severe and uncompromising penalties.

These penalties include lengthy prison sentences of up to 15 years, in addition to hefty fines that can reach one million Saudi riyals. The penalties are not limited to this, but also include confiscation of the vehicle used in the crime, confiscation of the residence or property used for sheltering the perpetrators, and public shaming of those involved in the media to serve as a deterrent to others.

General context and importance of border security protection

Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great importance on securing its vast borders, particularly the southern border in the Jazan region, which faces ongoing challenges due to infiltration attempts. These efforts are part of a comprehensive national strategy aimed at eliminating the phenomenon of infiltration and mitigating its negative consequences. Joint national campaigns, such as the “A Nation Without Violators” campaign, are among the most prominent initiatives launched by the Ministry of Interior to track down and apprehend violators of residency, labor, and border security regulations, reflecting a firm commitment to enforcing regulations and preserving national achievements.

Local and regional impact of these crimes

The crimes of smuggling and transporting illegal immigrants are not limited to security concerns; they also have negative impacts on the local economy and society. Infiltrators often engage in illicit activities that harm the labor market and may become involved in other criminal offenses. Therefore, this crime is legally classified as a major offense warranting arrest and considered a breach of honor and integrity, reflecting its grave threat to the social fabric and security of the Kingdom.

A call for citizens and residents to cooperate

Based on the firm principle that “the citizen is the first line of defense,” the Ministry of Interior urged all citizens and residents to cooperate with security authorities and promptly report any suspicious activity related to violations of residency, labor, and border security regulations. Reports can be submitted easily and confidentially by calling the unified number (911) in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, or by calling (999) and (996) in the rest of the Kingdom. The Ministry emphasized that all reports are treated with absolute confidentiality, without imposing any legal responsibility or repercussions on the reporter.
