
Technical training launches a specialization in robotics and artificial intelligence
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing national capabilities in advanced technologies, the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) the launch of a new and promising specialization: “Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Technology.” This specialization falls under the Electronic Technology Department within the Technical Colleges Diploma Program. The first cohort of 387 trainees was admitted at the beginning of the 1447 AH academic year, reflecting the significant interest in this vital field.
Background of the initiative and its alignment with Vision 2030
The launch of this specialized field comes within the context of the comprehensive national transformation led by the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which places innovation and digital transformation at the heart of its objectives to diversify the economy and build a knowledge-based society. Artificial intelligence and robotics technologies are among the most important pillars of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and recognizing their importance, the Kingdom seeks to localize these technologies and develop a national workforce capable of leading this sector. This step aligns with the efforts of major national bodies such as the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), which is working to develop and implement national strategies to make the Kingdom a global hub for advanced technologies.
Objectives of specialization and training of national cadres
The Deputy Governor for Training, Dr. Adel bin Hamad Al-Zunaidi, explained that the primary objective of introducing this specialization is to prepare qualified national talent possessing the necessary skills to design, develop, maintain, and operate smart systems. The program will focus on providing trainees with in-depth knowledge in machine learning, autonomous robotics, data analytics, and artificial intelligence applications across various vital sectors such as industry, healthcare, logistics, and smart cities. Graduates of this program are expected to contribute to increased production efficiency, improved service quality, and the creation of innovative solutions to existing challenges, thus providing high-quality and sustainable job opportunities for Saudi youth.
Strategic importance and future expansion
The launch of the program coincides with the Cabinet's decision to designate 2026 as the "Year of Artificial Intelligence," underscoring the government's comprehensive approach to supporting this field. This timing reflects the institution's commitment to keeping pace with national developments and enhancing the Kingdom's position as a global hub for data and smart technologies. The specialization was launched as a first phase in three major technical colleges in Abha, Riyadh, and Jeddah—cities that represent vital centers for business and technology. The institution confirmed that the General Directorate of Curricula developed the training plan according to the highest international standards, with plans for future expansion to include other colleges and the launch of more specialized and precise training tracks in advanced artificial intelligence fields.
