Al-Jawf weather: Strong winds and dust in Sakaka and Dumat al-Jandal
The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an important warning regarding the expected weather conditions today, Sunday, in the Al-Jawf region, indicating that the region will be affected by surface wind activity that may lead to a decrease in horizontal visibility.
The center explained in its daily report that the weather conditions include the city of Sakaka and the governorate of Dumat al-Jandal , where strong winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 49 kilometers per hour are expected. According to the report, these conditions began at 9:00 AM and will continue until 8:00 PM this Sunday, necessitating caution from citizens, residents, and highway users.
Impact of weather conditions on the region
These weather fluctuations are part of the typical climatic patterns experienced in the northern regions of the Kingdom during seasonal transitions. The significance of this warning lies in the impact of active winds that stir up dust and sand, directly affecting visibility, particularly in open areas and on highways connecting the governorates of Al-Jawf region with neighboring areas.
The Al-Jawf region, specifically Dumat Al-Jandal, is geographically known for its windy conditions, making it a strategic location for the first and largest wind power plant in the Middle East. However, wind speeds exceeding normal levels, as in today's weather alert, can stir up dense dust, disrupting traffic and affecting those with respiratory conditions.
Safety and prevention guidelines
In light of these conditions, weather experts and relevant authorities advise following a set of guidelines to ensure public safety, most notably:
- Avoid high speeds on highways and leave sufficient distance between vehicles.
- Make sure windows are tightly closed to prevent dirt and dust from entering homes or vehicles.
- Asthma and respiratory patients are advised to avoid going out into open spaces during periods of wind activity unless absolutely necessary.
- Follow the official weather bulletins issued by the National Center for Meteorology and Civil Defense on an ongoing basis.
The National Center of Meteorology continues its vital role in monitoring and tracking weather changes around the clock, using the latest technologies and satellites to ensure that accurate information is delivered to the public, which contributes to protecting lives and property and enhancing community awareness on how to deal with different weather phenomena.
