The Ministry of Environment is preparing for Hajj 1447 with comprehensive plans to serve the pilgrims

Engineer Mansour bin Hilal Al-Mashiti, Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, emphasized the paramount importance of continuing efforts and raising the level of preparedness across all sectors of the system, as part of early preparations for the 1447 AH Hajj season. These preparations aim to enhance the services provided to pilgrims and ensure they perform their rituals in a healthy and safe environment, in accordance with the highest international standards.

General context and the importance of early preparation for Hajj

The Hajj season is an exceptional religious event and one of the five pillars of Islam, during which millions of Muslims from around the world converge on Mecca to perform the pilgrimage. This massive human gathering in a limited geographical area and within a short timeframe presents a significant logistical and organizational challenge for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Managing this global event requires seamless coordination among all governmental and service sectors, with the environment, water, and agriculture sectors being at the forefront due to their vital role in ensuring water and food security, maintaining public health, and preserving the environment in the holy sites.

Details of the operational plan for the environmental system

Engineer Al-Mashiti's confirmation came during his chairmanship of a coordination meeting at the Ministry's branch headquarters in the Makkah region, where the system's readiness for the Hajj season was reviewed. The meeting included representatives from the Ministry's branches and affiliated entities, such as the National Agricultural Services Company, and focused on discussing operational plans and assessing the level of early preparedness. This includes ensuring adequate water supplies, monitoring the quality of food and provisions, and overseeing licensed slaughterhouses to guarantee compliance with health regulations.

Addressing environmental and health challenges

The meeting, attended by the Mayor of Makkah, Musaed bin Abdulaziz Al-Dawood, discussed several important issues, most notably the provision of food and the efforts being made to curb the phenomenon of unregulated slaughter. This phenomenon poses a significant environmental and health challenge, as it can lead to pollution and the spread of diseases. The Ministry, in cooperation with the Makkah Municipality, is working to strengthen oversight and raise awareness among pilgrims about the importance of using approved slaughterhouses, thus ensuring meat safety and maintaining the cleanliness of the holy sites.

The technical role of meteorology in supporting decision-making

In a related development, the Deputy Minister of Environment conducted a field visit to the headquarters of the National Center for Meteorology in Mina. During the visit, he was briefed on the technical support provided by the center, which includes issuing accurate reports on weather conditions, temperatures, and expected weather phenomena. This information plays a crucial role in supporting decision-making by authorities responsible for crowd management and the provision of health services, particularly in dealing with cases of heat exhaustion and guiding pilgrims during peak times. These field visits reflect the leadership's commitment to directly assessing the readiness of vital sites and ensuring the integration of efforts to provide high-quality services to pilgrims during the 1447 AH Hajj season.
