King Salman Relief Center supports food security in Aleppo, Syria
As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 2,589 food baskets to the most vulnerable families in Aleppo Governorate, northern Syria. These aid packages benefited 2,589 families, representing thousands of individuals, who are suffering from dire living conditions due to the protracted crisis in the country.
This initiative is part of a series of relief projects provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people and enhancing food security in affected areas. Each food basket contains essential items sufficient to meet a family's needs for several weeks, providing them with temporary stability and easing the burden of securing daily sustenance.
Background to the humanitarian crisis in Aleppo
Aleppo Governorate is among the areas most severely affected since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011. The city has suffered immense destruction of its infrastructure and widespread displacement of its population, significantly exacerbating the humanitarian situation. The disaster was further compounded by the devastating earthquake that struck northern Syria and southern Turkey in February 2013, adding to the burden on a population already suffering from severe shortages of food, shelter, and healthcare.
The importance and impact of aid
The distribution of these food baskets represents a lifeline for many families in Aleppo, directly contributing to the fight against hunger and malnutrition, particularly among children, women, and the elderly. Locally, this aid helps stabilize the community and gives families a sense of hope and international support. Regionally, these efforts reflect the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting humanitarian stability in the region and underscore its commitment to the principles of solidarity and fraternity with affected populations.
The continuity of such relief projects is not limited to providing food, but extends to supporting other vital sectors such as health, education and shelter, which is what the King Salman Relief Center is working on in Syria and many other countries around the world, emphasizing its global humanitarian mission that does not discriminate between race or religion.
