After the shops closed early, how much energy production does Egypt aim to reduce?
The source told Al Arabiya Business: “The targeted savings will be achieved as a result of implementing the plan to close public establishments, shops and commercial centers at nine o’clock in the evening, to deal with the current global economic repercussions and the energy supply crisis in the Middle East.”.
Peak consumption
The source added that the energy conservation plan and the closure of facilities across the country will reduce the national electricity grid load by approximately 17%, or about 5,000 megawatts per day. Peak energy consumption before the closure decision was around 29,400 megawatts per day, and the government aims to reduce it to between 24,000 and 25,000 megawatts.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly had explained on March 18 that shops, malls and restaurants would close at 9 pm, except on Thursdays and Fridays when they would continue to operate until 10 pm, starting from Saturday, March 28.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated yesterday that an immediate directive was issued to deduct 30% from all fuel allocations for government vehicles as part of exceptional measures to rationalize energy consumption in the country.
