40,000 per day... Establishment of a truck convoy area at Jeddah Islamic Port

The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), in partnership with the General Authority of Roads and Transportation (GART), Elm Company, and the Jeddah Islamic Port Authority (JIPCO), announced the establishment of a truck at Jeddah Islamic Port . Spanning one million square meters and with a capacity of up to 40,000 trucks per day, the area will regulate and manage truck flow according to a precise operational schedule, thereby increasing operational efficiency and maximizing capacity utilization.
successfully GART integrated advanced technologies and mechanisms to ensure the suitability of truck parking areas and enhance integration with all modes of transport, thereby facilitating and expediting supply chain flow.
This area is part of Mawani's efforts to develop the operational system and improve the efficiency of trade, supporting the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.

Integrated operating model

The zone relies on an integrated operational model based on pre-scheduling and managing truck flow along designated routes. This ensures smooth traffic flow within operational areas, especially during peak hours, and minimizes truck congestion and its impact on surrounding areas.
The zone incorporates several operational features, including automated truck data verification via smart systems, real-time routing of convoys, waiting areas, and exit routes, and the separation of truck traffic based on readiness.
Additionally, direct lanes are allocated for trucks ready to enter without delay, and early trucks are directed to designated waiting areas until their scheduled time.

It also relies on an integrated control and operations center to monitor truck movement in real time, proactively manage its flow and distribution across routes, track operational performance indicators, and handle exceptional situations, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and continuity.
The area covers the entire truck journey through interconnected operational components including reception, registration, verification, routing, and sorting, culminating in appointment confirmation and port entry, ensuring increased operational efficiency and an improved user experience.

Facilities and support services

The area includes support facilities and services such as equipped waiting areas, driver services, and operational and administrative offices, all of which contribute to improving the quality of services provided.
The initiative is expected to enhance truck operations efficiency and facilitate the smooth flow of exports, imports, and transit containers to and from the port.
It will also reduce waiting times and disorganized parking at the gates, improve punctuality, and enhance traffic flow by separating lanes and improving truck movement efficiency.
