Transporting 100,000 pilgrims in Mecca: The bus guidance plan for the 1445 season was a success

Success of the first phase of the Hajj transportation plan

As part of early preparations for the 1445 AH Hajj season, the Bus Guidance Center for International Pilgrims in Makkah announced its success in receiving and guiding over 100,000 pilgrims to their accommodations with ease and efficiency. This significant operational achievement was accomplished through the execution of more than 2,500 shuttle trips, averaging over 250 trips daily, during the first ten days of Dhu al-Qi'dah. These efforts are part of a comprehensive system of services launched by the center to ensure a comfortable and safe experience for the pilgrims from the moment they arrive in the Holy City.

Historical context and the importance of crowd management in Hajj

Managing crowds and transportation during the Hajj season presents a formidable logistical challenge, given that it is one of the world's largest annual human gatherings. Over the decades, Saudi Arabia has developed extensive expertise in this area, transitioning from traditional transportation methods to modern, technology-driven systems. These efforts reflect its responsibility as the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and its ongoing commitment to enhancing services for pilgrims, in line with the goals of Vision 2030, which aims to improve the Hajj and Umrah experience and elevate the quality of services provided.

Smart technologies to serve the pilgrims

The center's director general, Abdullah Sindi, explained that the guidance operations rely on a trained and qualified staff, supported by the latest technologies. The guides use smart tablets equipped with a precise Geographic Information System (GIS), enabling them to efficiently direct buses from their arrival at the entry points to Mecca to the pilgrims' accommodations. The "Guide Me" digital platform plays a pivotal role in this process, functioning as an integrated smart system that connects field guides to the operations and monitoring room. This allows for real-time tracking of bus routes and ensures adherence to designated routes and schedules, directly contributing to reduced travel time and congestion.

The importance and expected impact of logistics services

The success of the initial transportation operations has an impact not only locally, but also regionally and internationally. Locally, this efficiency contributes to enhancing the comfort and safety of pilgrims and easing pressure on Makkah's road infrastructure. Internationally, these efforts reinforce the Kingdom's position as a leading nation in managing and organizing major events, setting a model for utilizing technology to serve humanitarian and religious objectives. They also send a reassuring message to millions of Muslims worldwide that their spiritual journey will be accompanied by care and attention, reflecting the Kingdom's civilized image and its commitment to serving the guests of God in the best possible way.
