Jazan: Border Guards successfully rescue a child from drowning in Bish

As part of the humanitarian efforts and security tasks undertaken by the competent authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the search and rescue teams of the Border Guard in the Jazan region, specifically in the Bish governorate, were able to save the life of a child who was involved in a drowning accident while swimming.

This operation confirms the high readiness and rapid response of the Border Guard teams in dealing with emergency cases. The teams immediately went to the site as soon as the case was detected, and they pulled the child out of the water and provided him with the necessary first aid on site to ensure his condition stabilized, before he was immediately transferred to the hospital to complete the examinations and receive specialized medical care.

Readiness of search and rescue teams

Search and rescue operations are an integral part of the Saudi Border Guard's mission, which extends beyond protecting the nation's borders to safeguarding the lives of citizens, residents, and beachgoers. These teams undergo intensive training to handle various maritime incidents, enabling them to intervene swiftly and effectively in critical moments that determine life and death.

Maritime safety guidelines and important warnings

In a related context, the General Directorate of Border Guards reiterated its warnings to beachgoers and those using the sea, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to maritime safety guidelines and instructions. The Directorate urged everyone to exercise caution and avoid swimming in unauthorized areas, given the significant dangers posed by strong currents, deep waters, and the absence of rescue teams in remote or restricted areas.

The guidelines also emphasized the importance of constantly monitoring children while they are near beaches, and not leaving them alone, as parental negligence is considered one of the main causes of unfortunate drowning incidents.

Emergency communication channels

To ensure a rapid response to any emergency, the General Directorate of Border Guards has provided unified emergency numbers, urging everyone not to hesitate to seek assistance when needed. It clarified that the following numbers can be contacted:

  • (911): For those located in the regions of Mecca, Medina, and the Eastern Province.
  • (994): For those located in the rest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This incident serves as an important reminder of the need for community awareness of the dangers of the sea and the importance of following the regulations that have been put in place for everyone's safety, to ensure that people spend enjoyable and safe times on the Kingdom's beaches.
