Jeddah police arrest two people on charges of blasphemy

In a swift and decisive security operation, security patrols in Jeddah Governorate announced the arrest of two individuals involved in a case that violates religious values and legal principles, after a video documenting their crime circulated on social media platforms.

According to details revealed by the Public Security, the first defendant uttered phrases that included insults to God, an act that is criminalized by Sharia and the law in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while the second defendant documented this offensive content and published it publicly via social media, which prompted immediate intervention from the competent authorities.

Security measures and enforcement of the law

The official Public Security account shared a video documenting the moment of the suspects' arrest, emphasizing that security forces are vigilant against anyone who dares to threaten public safety or violate the religious and moral values of society. The necessary legal procedures have been taken against the detainees, and they have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and the application of deterrent penalties.

Legal liability and cybercrimes

This incident highlights the firm stance the Kingdom takes in dealing with crimes that offend Islam and public morals. Saudi law, derived from Islamic Sharia, imposes severe penalties for blasphemy and insults against sacred symbols. Furthermore, the act of "publishing and documenting" such material falls under the purview of the Anti-Cybercrime Law.

Article 6 of the Kingdom's Anti-Cybercrime Law stipulates severe penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for anyone who produces, prepares, transmits, or stores, via the internet or any computer device, anything that could harm public order, religious values, public morals, or the sanctity of private life. Documenting and disseminating such crimes is considered a separate offense that significantly increases the severity of the act committed.

Protecting societal values

This security measure reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment to protecting society from alien ideas and behaviors that contradict sound reason and the teachings of Islam. Such actions are isolated and deviant from the fabric of conservative Saudi society, which reveres God's rituals and respects sacred sites.

The Ministry of Interior and the various security sectors continue to monitor and follow up on everything that disrupts security and public order, calling on everyone to be responsible when using social media, and to refrain from publishing or circulating any content that violates regulations or offends values and principles.
