With an increase of 5.2 billion riyals, banks' investments in treasury bonds rise to 658.2 billion riyals

Data from the Saudi Central Bank showed that Saudi banks' investments in treasury bonds rose to SAR 658.2 billion during February 2026, an increase of SAR 5.2 billion compared to the previous month.

On an annual basis, banks’ investments in treasury bonds increased by approximately 51.6 billion riyals, or 9%.

Banks' investments in government treasury bonds constituted about 72% of their total claims on the government and quasi-government sector during the period.

The banks’ total claims on the public sector amounted to about 910 billion riyals last February, compared to 821.3 billion riyals at the end of the same month in 2025.

It is worth noting that Treasury bonds in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are long-term government debt instruments issued by the Kingdom's government (through the Ministry of Finance, Public Debt Management Office).

According to the Saudi Central Bank, treasury bonds include internationally issued government bonds and sukuk, which banks purchase from the secondary market. Central bank bills were excluded in accordance with international methodologies.
